nice this is just my suggestion but, after working on your form, ofc, doing heavy weights for a while might be better to build strength, then focus on mass afterwards if that's your goal. probably an easier transition than the other way round... or at least it is for me. to build mass you need to do more hypertrophy workouts which put your muscle under a lot of stress and you get microtears. the recovery period and your calorie intake is what builds the mass. for strength training it's more of a neuromuscular thing. |

weight doesn't matter too much if you're building mass. you just need to put your muscles under enough stress for them to get microtears. people tend to go for 8-10 reps for that. for strength, you're trying to increase the amount you can lift, so to do that you're going to need heavy weights. a popular routine is the 5x5 stronglift. you're taxing your nervous system more rather than your muscles, and lower volume so that your muscles arent stressed that much... so anywhere from 3-5 reps. that's why when people are training to increase mass, their recovery periods are only about 30-60 seconds, whereas if you're strength training it can be anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes.
